Jonathan’s mission is to educate and empower athletes, coaches, and providers in managing and preventing injury. He is a soft tissue therapist using various protocols that include Active Release Technique, ELDOA, and fascial release, with applied knowledge of biomechanics. He has extensive experience treating elite athletes across many disciplines — distance running, track and field, triathlon, Paralympics, CrossFit, and more — as well as a wide range of everyday athletes and people who simply want their bodies to move properly again.

Jonathan’s ambition is not only to provide top level care to every client with whom he works personally but to inspire others to go with him, pursuing collaboration and excellent outcomes and pushing back the boundaries of knowledge in this field.

Background

Jonathan Pierce is a world class practitioner who is able to help athletes of all levels and disciplines achieve their performance goals.

Jonathan is a certified Active Release Technique Provider and also draws upon his extensive background in movement, biomechanics, and strength and conditioning to make up his unique expertise and style. He has worked with many runners, triathletes, CrossFit athletes, marathoners, jumpers, throwers, and vaulters and has had the privilege of working with some of the world’s elite athletes and Olympic Medalists.

In 2016 he founded Kinetik Performance Co. in San Diego and currently works full time there as director/lead practitioner alongside a team of colleagues working in their own capacities to help clients maximize performance, rehabilitate injuries, and prevent their recurrence.

Jonathan’s previous positions include working full time as a consultant for Brooks managing performance aspects for their professional track athletes, and serving as Director of Rehabilitation and Training at Fix Body Group in San Diego, where he treated patients as well as training other providers.

As a former elite athlete in Track and Field and distance running, Jonathan competed for Stanford University, where he was an All-American in the 3000m Steeplechase, and then ran professionally for 3 years with Reebok/Zap Fitness, Mammoth Track Club, and ASICS.

After completing his elite running career, he became the therapist for Mammoth Track Club for two years. During this time he mentored with several elite coaches, including Dan Pfaff and Terrence Mahon and also worked under world class providers Dr. Justin Whitaker and Dr. Chris Vincent.

Jonathan continues to draw inspiration from the work of these and other top coaches, providers, and therapists and to seek every opportunity for network and collaboration in the field. Increasingly, he looks to be involved with networking and training events and seminars that will benefit providers and athletes at every level from high school athletics to elite competition.
